Get ready to explore BCI’s new bat-themed curriculum for grades 4-8! With 17 exciting lessons, students will dive into the world of bats, learning about their biology, ecology, and vital role in ecosystems. Through interactive activities and hands-on projects, they’ll discover the importance of bats in pollination, pest control, and conservation. Deep in the Heart Film: Mexican Free-Tailed Bats
The following video clip, narrated by Matthew McConaughey, connects students to Texas’s unique environments, inspiring conservation action. Created in partnership with Bat Conservation International, Regions of Texas: Great Plains and Gulf Coastal Plains, and Ecoregion of Texas: Edwards Plateau, these videos feature Bracken Cave near San Antonio, home to Mexican free-tailed bats found throughout Texas.
Each video includes four TEKS and NGSS-aligned lessons for K-12 teachers, with teacher instructions, student documents, and PowerPoint files available in both English and Spanish. The lessons align with the revised 2020/2021 Science TEKS, and also connect to Social Studies TEKS and Next Generation Science Standards.
